Are Taawon’s Programs Eligible to Receive Zakat?
Yes. Taawon’s programs serving orphans and the most vulnerable in Palestine are aligned with the recognized categories of Zakat recipients, based on formal fatwas issued by qualified Islamic authorities since 1995 and in subsequent years after reviewing program details. Highlights include:
- Fatwa of the Mufti of Jerusalem & Palestine (1995): Permits Taawon to collect Zakat to fund charitable activities such as orphan care and assistance to the poor.
View fatwa - Fatwa from Head of Ifta’ Committee, University College of Applied Sciences – Gaza (2017): Allows allocating Zakat to support university students in Gaza through the ISNAD program.
View fatwa - Fatwa of the Mufti of Jerusalem & Palestine (2023): Permits allocating Zakat for humanitarian assistance, including food and essential relief for orphans and vulnerable families via the Noor program.
View fatwa - Al-Azhar Online Fatwa Center (2025): Endorses allocating Zakat towards Gaza reconstruction, essential relief, and support for those affected.
These fatwas affirm Taawon’s commitment to Sharia compliance and transparency in directing Zakat to eligible beneficiaries — orphans, students, and vulnerable families in Palestine.
