Awards given by Welfare Association
Acting
on the initiative of several members of the Board, the Welfare
Associationhas introduced a system of annual Awards to recognize
outstanding achievement among donors, NGOs and individuals in their
field of work for the benefit of the Palestinian society.
Award Categories:
- The "Philanthropy" Award recognizes special donations by
institutions and personalities that enable the Association to carry out
its mission as a lead Palestinian non-governmental development and
humanitarian organization.
- The NGO "Achievement" Award
recognizes distinguished achievements by civil society institutions in
service delivery and capacity building in various developmental fields.
- The
"Excellence" Award honors prominent individuals world-wide who have
shown distinction in the human, cultural, and science fields.
Purpose of the awards:
- To give national recognition to those who
give to and support the humanitarian effort on behalf of the
Palestinian people. These awards are for Palestinians symbolizing the
values of their people.
- To create
awareness regarding the necessity for supporting the Welfare
Association and Palestinian NGOs, and their role in social, economic
and cultural development.
- To seek,
recognize and promote individual Palestinian excellence in the fields
of Science and Technology, Culture and Education and Business and, as
such, showcase Palestinian excellence and talent existing all over the
globe.
- To widen awareness about the Welfare Association's mission, objectives, programs, and enhance its fundraising potential.
Issuance of the Award
The award is bestowed annually in a WA ceremony to which the winners or their representatives are invited.
Awards Received by WA:
- WA PNGO Project: Winner of the World Bank competitive bid, 1997.
- WA IT4Youth Program: Winner of the UN Habitat and Dubai Municipality Best Practices Prize, 2004.
- WA Old City of Jerusalem Revitalization Program OCJRP: Winner of the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture, 2004.
